SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Monitors, evaluates, and maintains systems and procedures to protect the data systems and databases from unauthorized users. Identifies potential threats and responds to reported security violations.
Determines causes of security violations and recommends corrective actions to ensure data security. Researches, recommends, and implements changes to procedures and systems to enhance data systems security. Assists in communicating security procedures to users.
Primary focus will be on data governance and data loss prevention.

During the 90-day period following the employee's hire, the employee is classified as a new employee; both Merit and the employee should use this period to evaluate the employee's skills, qualifications, and fit for the position.

ESSENTION FUNCTIONS PERFORMED

  • Manage data loss prevention solutions.

  • Deploy and manage Palo Alto firewalls utilizing Palo Alto Panorama.

  • Proactively monitors systems and network traffic for anomalies and provides counter measures and mitigation of findings.

  • Researches and develops network security policies, procedures, presentations, and documentation.

  • Manages Enterprise Antivirus, Web Filter, email security gateway, Data Loss Prevention, and IDS/IPS systems.

  • Protects the information and projects of the company by developing and implementing data encryption methods and programs.

  • Conducts vulnerability and security risk assessment of the assets of the company.

  • Monitors compliance of information security procedures and policies and reports infringements to appropriate personnel.

  • Provide technical resources for the Security Department by supporting security systems which includes but is not limited to security software, card readers, cameras, video archiving, reports, and databases.

  • Performs other related duties and tasks as required.

SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field with five year's network security experience.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL and MySQL databases.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of computer hardware.

  • Understanding of physical and operational security.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve effectively.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others.

  • Ability to work as a team member.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated time management skills.

  • Demonstrated computer skills preferably spreadsheets, word processing, database and other applicable software programs, specifically Visio and Excel for documentation and creating maps and diagrams.

  • Up to 10% travel may be required.

  • Passport and valid driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic knowledge of Linux/Unix and Macintosh strongly preferred.

  • (2+) years of experience with enterprise firewalls (Palo Alto, Cisco Firepower, or checkpoint).

  • CISSP, CEH, Palo Alto PCNSE, Security+, or GIAC certification strongly preferred.

COMPETENCIES

  • Network security development/implementation/monitoring

  • Network security policy/procedure development & implementation

  • Network security potential threat identification/response to reported security violations
