Job Title: Social Services Director

FLSA Status: Full Time - exempt
Reports to: Corps Officers

Supervises: N/A

Start Date: TBD

Closing Date: 4/17/2024

Rate of Pay: $52,000-$58,240/year

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

  • Sick leave benefit - 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire)
  • Vacation benefit - 20 vacation days per year, accrued at the rate of .0769 hours for each hour worked (accrual begins at hire but may not be used until the completion of six months of employment)
  • One floating day off for use (accrued immediately, and again annually, but may not be used until the completion of the initial three-month introductory period of employment)

Scope of Position/Essential Functions:

The Social Services Director provides direction and oversight of the Social Service Department which serves Salt Lake City and surrounding areas. This position supervises departmental staff and interns, and the daily social service operations. The role involves developing, evaluating and reporting on social service programs as well as providing direct service to clients.

Alongside the Corps Officers, the Social Service Director will monitor program budgets and revenue, ensure timely reporting of grants, and collaborate with the Grant and Community Development Manager in sourcing new funding opportunities. At times, the Social Service Director will also be asked to network with community partners and outside organizations as The Salvation Army's representative.

Oversee the Social Services Programs

  1. Provide direction and supervision of Social Services Department in Salt Lake City.
  2. Maintain knowledge of current and future social service trends and assist The Salvation Army in the development and improvement of social services programs.
  3. Become fluent in the use of The Salvation Army's social services database software.
  4. Develop and apply outcome measures and measurement tools to social service programming.
  5. Monitor social service budget, including grant funding.
  6. Complete paperwork and fund reports in an accurate and timely manner

Manage Daily Social Services Operations

  1. Make decisions as to the day-to-day effective operation of services and case management.
  2. Provide leadership and training to the social service staff in terms of standards and best-practices
  3. As needed, provide client assistance - Interview clients and assess needs, make eligibility decisions, document as required and needed.
  4. Support implementation of The Salvation Army's Pathway of Hope initiative.

Supervise Internships

  1. Assess need and potential impact of intern placements and create a plan for utilizing internships within Salt Lake City.
  2. Recruit and interview prospective interns for placement.
  3. Provide required academic supervision of the interns' experience.
  4. Implement Divisional internship policies and training.
  5. Administer the reporting and evaluation for each student upon completion of their internship.

Network

  1. As directed, serve as a liaison on behalf of The Salvation Army with community groups in related fields. Work with and attend community partnerships and inter-agency coordination meetings, coalitions, committees, and task forces.
  2. Maintain awareness of services provided by other local social service agencies, actively seeking resources for clients through those agencies.
  3. Cooperate with efforts of other community agencies to coordinate services and to communicate about difficult cases, assuring that valid client information releases are on file when appropriate and necessary.
  4. Participate in internal committees and conferences as requested by the Corps Officers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Ability to establish and cultivate new intern partnerships with local colleges and universities.
  • Demonstrate a history of providing professional, effective case management with families and individuals
  • Capable of assessing training needs of social services personnel
  • Able to conceptualize and teach case management skills
  • Desire to serve others by building on their strengths
  • Competent in working independently within clear parameters in a team environment

Education and Work Experience:

Bachelors in Social Work (B.S.W.) with at least 2 years of professional social work experience. However, having a Masters Degress in Social Work (M.S.W.) is preferred.
