Contracted Faculty of Practice (Adjunct): Guitar Instructor
Position Overview: Faculty at Concordia University, St. Paul work as members of an academic team of full- and part-time colleagues to consistently deliver high-quality instruction to students. Course Description: Beginning Guitar I and Beginning Guitar II
Beginning Guitar I
This course is designed for those with no knowledge of the instrument. Areas covered include tuning the guitar, strumming techniques, chords-two keys, and transposing. Open to all students. (Offered every fall and spring. No prerequisite. Players with previous guitar experience may be exempt by examination and move on to private guitar if desired or needed for program. Studio course.)
Beginning Guitar II
This course is a continuation of Beginning Guitar I with additional chords in several more keys. This course is recommended for students desiring to study private guitar. (Offered every Spring. Studio course.)
Applied Guitar Lessons
One-on-one lessons for either 30 minutes or 1 hour; 14 lessons per semester. Indiviualized instruction aligning with the student's interests, while still exposing each student to a variety of styles of guitar literature, including folk, classical, and pop styles. In addition, prepare the student for end-of-semester juries.
Program/College: The Music BA at CSP empowers musicians to strive toward concentrated degrees depending on their instrumental and musical interests. Degree tracks include performance, music theory and composition, and music history.
Students who complete the program will be prepared for graduate work in music and employment in musical roles as performers, composers, and private teachers.
Individual lessons on the standard orchestral and band instruments and voice stress proper tone production, phrasing, and style. Special techniques unique to the instrument are studied. The material covered includes standard works for the instrument. All lessons include studio classes scheduled throughout the term as lab time. (Offered every semester. Prerequisites: approval and placement by instructor. Private lesson fee.)

Education Preferred: Minimum of a Master's Degree in Music preferred or equivalent professional experience.
Experience Preferred: At least one year of college teaching experience.
