Job Description

Position: Project Controls Lead

Primary Location: Remote - US or Canada - up to 25% Travel in US and Canada required

Reports To: Manager, Capital Procurement and Project Controls

Compensation: $115,000-$125,000

The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

In that spirit we seek a Project Controls Lead to enhance our Project governance strategies and lead our projects to successful delivery by helping to spend our capital dollars more efficiently and effectively.

About This Role and You

As the Project Controls Lead, your role is pivotal in guiding our Capital Projects through financial and operational challenges, using your technical know-how and Project Control acumen to influence the trajectory of our corporate ambitions through collaboration with our Corporate Project Managers and Engineering team.

With your experience in project controls, you are adept at managing project controls throughout the total project life-cycle from conception to execution. Your ability to oversee a diverse portfolio of projects in a specialty chemical manufacturing setting, from inception to completion, showcases your strategic leadership in project execution.

Qualifications

    Experience: 5-10 years of Project Management, Construction Management, or Project Controls experience in a heavy industrial, oil & gas, petrochemical, specialty chemical, or pharmaceutical field is considered an asset. Field project controls experience with Engineering or Construction Contracting is considered an asset.
  • Project Controls Expertise: Proficient in stage-gate processes, estimating, scheduling, monitoring, reporting, change management, and risk management.
  • Technical Acumen: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, MS Project, and adept in tools like PowerBI, SAP.
  • Leadership and Communication: Exceptional ability to lead, communicate, and foster collaboration across teams and projects. Ability to influence by forming strong bonds with PM's.
  • Portfolio Management: Skilled in directing a portfolio of projects at various execution stages, ensuring coherence with business goals, and adherence to internal Project Management Best Practices.
  • Education: BS in an engineering or business related discipline, data analytics, or construction management discipline is a plus but not required, OR proven equivalent experience in practice.

Responsibilities

  • Project Governance Enhancement
    • Work closely with Project Managers to unify and improve estimation and scheduling methodologies, championing innovative tools and best practices.
    • Act as a resource to coach younger project engineers in how to use tools.
    • Spearhead the development and refinement of project governance frameworks to sync with our strategic aspirations.
  • Strategic Reporting and Analysis
    • Assist Project Managers in Project Planning and Execution of their capital projects
    • Develop and maintain sophisticated reporting systems for Chemtrade's growth project portfolio to inform executive-level decisions.
    • Leverage tools such as Excel and PowerBI to translate complex data sets into user-friendly dashboards to monitor project, engineering, and construction progress throughout the project lifecycle
  • Data Management and Analysis
    • Drive the execution of comprehensive data analyses to bolster strategic planning and project reporting functions.
    • Utilize statistical and predictive models to evaluate project trajectories, identify risks and map out contingencies.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership
    • Serve as the primary conduit between Corporate Finance, accounting, and project teams, ensuring seamless integration of financial planning with project controls.
    • Cultivate a collaborative culture that encourages unity across disciplines, continuous improvement, and a steadfast commitment to safety.
  • Technological Proficiency and Integration
    • Display proficient to expert-level command over technology platforms integral to project controls, including but not limited to Excel, PowerBI, MS Project, SAP, or PROCORE.
    • Seamlessly integrate third-party systems to enhance the effectiveness of project management and reporting functionalities.
