Your Opportunity

The Transportation Manager is responsible for planning, leading, guiding, directing, and managing the fleet operation to ensure safe, efficient, timely and accurate transportation of Feed Haul, Live Haul, Top Haul, Trailer Wash, and Vehicle Maintenance operations. Operating in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, the manager performs the following duties personally or through subordinates.


Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sales strategies for all market and cull animals that will optimize profitability.

  • Be responsible for developing the management and leadership skills of all direct reports.

  • Be responsible for development and implementation of annual strategic plan and goals.

  • Supervise weekly sales and transfer plans.

  • Communicate and work cooperatively with animal purchasers.

  • Arrange, implement and monitor success of alternative markets.

  • Serve as a member of the Management Team.

  • Provide recommendations that will result in improved throughput and decreased operating costs.

  • Serve as a resource person to the Finishing Team in efforts to optimize pig market weights and value.

  • Supervise the local haul logistics while assuring biosecurity procedures are maintained.

  • Serve as a point person in communicating with contract trucking firms.

  • Responsible for obtaining and monitoring marketing data.

  • Assist and coordinate with finishing and nursery units with the planning and logistics of pig flows.

  • Track and monitor progress on marketing key performance indicators.

  • Maintain and foster excellent communications with member of the Management Team, Wean to Finishing Team, Accounting Team, and Farm Leaders.

  • Cooperate with other Smithfield Pork Operations to improve productivity and job knowledge.

  • Participate in quarterly coordination meeting with buyers.

  • Responsible for being in compliance with all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield subscribes.

  • Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.

  • Read and understand the company's emergency notification process and will be responsible for reviewing that policy at their work site.

  • Follow Smithfield animal welfare policies and procedures including providing a physical environment that meets the animals needs, providing access to adequate water and high quality feed, providing humane treatment of the animals, providing identification and appropriate treatment of animals in need of health care and following the guidelines for euthanasia as outlined in the NPB publication, "On Farm Euthanasia of Swine - Options for the Producer".

  • Responsible for understanding all safety requirements of the job and for performing the job in compliance with the safety requirements.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or universityand5+ years' relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • Minimum of 2+ years' experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management, required.

  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Team player.

  • Ability to follow instructions.

  • Organizational skills.

  • Good computer skills.

  • Excellent analytical and financial skills.

  • Maintain PQA Plus and TQA certifications.

  • Ability to do hard physical labor.

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and data analysis.

  • Must be available for occasional travel.

  • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.

  • Must be on call to work in emergency situations such as power outages or personnel shortages.

  • Must be able to work an average 45-hour week with an average 9-hour workday, which can vary frequently.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Transportation Managers are directly responsible for Transportation Supervisors and indirectly responsible for all labor at their domiciles

Salary Range

$66,000.00 - $98,625.00
